WWII Australian Spitfire Pilot Charles Clement Jones Passes Away, Honored for His Heroic Service

Charles Clement Jones, the last surviving Australian Spitfire pilot from World War II, has passed away, leaving behind a legacy of bravery and dedication to his country. Clem Jones, as he was affectionately known, played a vital role in the war effort, piloting a Spitfire in critical missions and facing life-threatening situations, including a near-death experience due to oxygen deprivation while intercepting German Me109 aircraft at high altitudes.

The news of his passing was shared by the Temora Aviation Museum, which had the privilege of hosting Clem on several occasions. The museum paid tribute to Jones, noting, "Clem was a friend of the Temora Aviation Museum and had visited on previous occasions. We were honored to capture a short interview with Clem as he recounted his wartime experiences."

Tributes from the community poured in, with one user, Kenneth Borwick, writing, "Lest we forget." Another, Ian Funnell, remarked, "What a story. RIP Clem."

Charles Clement Jones will be remembered not only for his wartime service but also for his connection to the Spitfire Association and the stories he left behind, preserving a piece of history for future generations.
