Virginia “Ginny” Trudel, Beloved Fitchburg Resident and Former Priscilla’s Candy Shop Owner, Passes Away at 93

Fitchburg, MA – Virginia “Ginny” Trudel, a cherished resident of Fitchburg, MA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at The Highlands. She was 93 years old. Ginny, born on July 18, 1931, in Concord, NH, was well-known for her deep commitment to her family and her work in the community.

A graduate of Gardner High School in 1949 and Burbank School of Nursing in 1952, Ginny dedicated much of her life to helping others as a registered nurse at Heywood Hospital and Gardner Manor. Her care and compassion left a lasting impact on both her colleagues and patients.

Later in life, Ginny, alongside her husband Pete, took over Priscilla’s Candy Shop, a beloved business in Gardner originally founded by her father. The shop became a cherished part of the local community, known for its warmth and sweet treats.

Virginia is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, Robert “Pete” Trudel, as well as her four daughters: Patricia “Bunny” Aas, Andrea Dinneen, Maureen Gallant, and Jackie Trudel. She is also survived by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she adored.

Ginny’s life was marked by love, laughter, and family gatherings, especially in her home on Abbott Street, where she hosted countless celebrations. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Calling hours will be held at Mack Family Funeral Home in Gardner on Friday, September 13, 2024, from 5-7 p.m. A funeral mass will follow on Saturday, September 14, at 11 a.m. at Holy Spirit Church in Gardner, with burial at Notre Dame Cemetery.

Many in the community have expressed their condolences and shared fond memories of Ginny on Facebook. Catherine Grenier remembered her as a “very special lady” who went out of her way to make a May basket when they were no longer available, reflecting her kindness. Sarah LaLiberte shared her sadness, remembering Ginny as her first boss at Priscilla’s. Gail Lansky highlighted how warm and kind Ginny was, noting the camaraderie among downtown Gardner businesses.

Wendy Ronn Pervier recalled how Ginny was always so nice, and they would often have pleasant chats whenever she visited the shop. Lisa Perreault Agnelli expressed how Ginny’s kindness was a tremendous loss for the community.

The family has extended their gratitude to the staff at The Highlands for the compassionate care Ginny received. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to The Highlands-3rd Floor Activities Fund or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Ginny’s presence will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and the many people whose lives she touched throughout the years.
