Tracy Hiatt Passes Away After Aggressive Cancer Surgery, Family Seeks Support in Winston-Salem, NC

Winston-Salem, NC – Tracy Hiatt, a long-time resident of Winston-Salem, has passed away following a sudden and aggressive battle with liver cancer. The family has organized a fundraiser to assist with the unexpected financial burden left behind.

According to a fundraiser created by Whitney Skoglund, Tracy Hiatt’s cancer progressed rapidly, and despite undergoing surgery last Thursday to remove the affected tissue and tumor, he was unable to recover from the operation. His family, including his long-term girlfriend, Drema, now faces significant financial strain.

Drema, who had relied on Tracy’s support, is left with mounting bills and is at risk of losing the home Tracy had rented since 1995. Although the family has been relieved of the costs of a traditional burial by donating Tracy’s body to Wake Forest University’s medical department, numerous unexpected expenses still remain.

The fundraiser has raised $1,005 of its $3,500 goal, with 19 donations so far. Whitney Skoglund has expressed the family’s deep appreciation for the community’s support during this difficult time. "This was all very sudden, and we are all still in shock, so any kindness you share with us will not go unappreciated," she said.

Contributors, including Hurst Miranda with a $20 donation, Jazma Phelps with $100, and Ryan Simmons, who made the first donation of $100, have shown their support for Tracy’s family.

The family continues to hope for additional assistance to cover the remaining financial burdens as they cope with the loss of their loved one.
