Stuart Meade, Former Director of Baiting Hollow Scout Camp, Passes Away at Suffolk County

Suffolk County, NY – Stuart Meade, affectionately known as Stu, has passed away, leaving behind a profound legacy in the Scouting community. Stuart Meade served as the former director of Baiting Hollow Scout Camp and dedicated his life to the principles of Scouting, influencing countless lives throughout his career.

Stu’s contributions to Scouting spanned several Councils, with his most impactful years spent at Baiting Hollow Scout Camp in Suffolk County. He was deeply committed to the camp’s mission, fostering a love of the outdoors and the core values of Scouting in thousands of young Scouts. Under his leadership, Baiting Hollow thrived, and his efforts left a lasting imprint on the camp and the Scouting community at large.

Baiting Hollow Scout Camp shared the heartbreaking news, stating, “Stu’s love of camp was second only to the love he had for his family. His legacy in Scouting will continue through the thousands of lives he touched along his journey.”

Those who knew Stu took to Facebook to share their memories and pay tribute to him. Gerri Alfano reflected, "We all have lost a great friend and Scouter. I will miss my dear friend." Brian Gilligan added, "An absolute fixture was lost. RIP Stu." Another Scouter, Brian Kraus, expressed, "RIP..Great staff advisor to the lodge during my time as Lodge Advisor."

Jim Brown, who cherished his time spent with Stu, commented, “Stu was an amazing Scouter, friend, and mentor. I will truly miss his stories and recollections.” Similarly, Andy Calev remembered him as “a true go-to Scouter,” noting that his leadership would remain with the Scouting community forever.

Many others from the Baiting Hollow Scout Camp family shared their condolences. Rocco Prichinello said, “Stu was a great Scouter and gentleman. His contributions will live on in all the lives he touched.” Erin Hoelle echoed similar sentiments, expressing, “I always loved working with Stu! I’m sure that him and dad are having a blast!”

Bob Travis captured the essence of Stu’s character, stating, “A word that I’m seeing come up frequently in these comments is ‘gentleman.’ I can’t think of a better description for Stu Meade.
