St. Paul Resident and Beloved SLPHS Teacher Matt Eggert Passes Away After Battle with Cancer

St. Paul, Minnesota – The Spring Lake Park community is mourning the loss of Matthew ‘Matt’ Eggert, a highly respected math and coding teacher at Spring Lake Park High School (SLPHS). Eggert, who was also an alumnus of the school, passed away following a brave battle with cancer. His death was confirmed by SLPHS Principal Matthew Boucher in a heartfelt statement.

Eggert, a resident of St. Paul, was diagnosed with cancer last December. Despite his illness, he remained optimistic and continued to engage with his students and community with his characteristic humor. In the statement, Principal Boucher shared that Eggert had the opportunity to travel to Paris with his brother for this year’s Olympics, a trip that brought him great joy.

A 1999 valedictorian and alumnus of Saint Paul Public Schools, Eggert pursued higher education at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering and Materials Science. He later obtained a Master’s in Teaching from Hamline University, furthering his commitment to education.

Throughout his career, Matt worked in various educational roles, including as a gallery supervisor at the Science Museum of Minnesota and as a math enrichment tutor for the Minnesota Math Corps. He had been a math teacher at Spring Lake Park Schools since 2014, where he was known for his dedication to his students and his passion for teaching.

Funeral arrangements and obituary details will be released by the family in due course. The community, along with family and friends, continues to mourn the loss of a beloved teacher and mentor.
