The incident occurred near Washington and Harvard streets on Thursday evening, September 14, 2024.

According to reports, Hayes fired his legally owned firearm in self-defense after being attacked by an individual who crossed the street and physically assaulted him and other demonstrators. The attacker reportedly ran full speed into the group before the altercation escalated. Hayes, in response, used his firearm, resulting in serious injuries to the attacker, who is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.

Facebook users reacted to the incident, with some expressing support for Hayes. A post from The Whiskey Cowboy stated, “This is clearly a case of legal self-defense using a firearm, yet it is ALSO Massachusetts.”

Others, like Elle Melan, shared opposing views, commenting, “lSRAEL was founded and runs on terrorism. Learn about 1948 Nakba…”

The incident remains under investigation, with legal actions pending against both Hayes and the individual involved in the assault.
