South Irving, Texas – Debbie Hamilton, a devoted school crossing guard, was seriously injured on the morning of Monday, August 26, 2024, while ensuring the safety of students and parents at Schultze Elementary School.
Ms. Hamilton was stationed at the intersection of Irving Heights and Shady Grove when she was struck by a speeding, distracted driver in the school zone. The impact left her with multiple severe injuries, including two broken legs, multiple facial fractures, three skull fractures, and significant brain swelling. She was rushed to the trauma unit at Parkland Hospital and placed in a medically induced coma. Due to the extent of her injuries, she has been breathing through a ventilator and is scheduled for a tracheotomy.
The Irving community has been deeply affected by this tragic incident, rallying around Ms. Hamilton and her family during this difficult time. Her recovery is expected to be long and costly, with rehabilitation potentially taking years.
