Ruth Jean Bolt, Beloved Educator and Historian, Passes Away at 93 in Laurel Fork, Virginia

Laurel Fork, Virginia – Ruth Jean Bolt, a respected educator and historian, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2024, at Laurel Meadows, Heritage Hall, in Laurel Fork, Virginia. She was 93 years old.

Born in Stone, Kentucky, on October 11, 1930, Ruth Jean dedicated her life to teaching and made a lasting impact on the community. After attending Mars Hill College and graduating from Radford University with a major in elementary education, Ruth Jean spent over 30 years shaping young minds as a teacher in Patrick County. Her commitment to education and her mentorship left an indelible mark on generations of students.

In addition to her teaching career, Ruth Jean was known for her deep passion for history. As a local historian, she contributed significantly to preserving the history of the area. Her talent as a painter was also admired, and her artwork was well-regarded by many in the community.

Ruth Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Myrtle Shelor Bolt and Sylvester Lawrence Bolt, as well as her sisters, Eileen Bolt Dalton and Alice B. ("Tinky") Shelor. She is survived by her nephew, Booker Hughes Dalton, his family, and several other relatives.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at a later date, and Moody Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
