Rick Paetow, 44-Year-Old Motorcyclist, Tragically Killed in Accident Near Cheney, Washington

Cheney, Washington – Rick Paetow, a 44-year-old motorcyclist, lost his life in a tragic accident on September 2, 2024, near Cheney, Washington. Paetow was struck by a vehicle while riding his motorcycle when a driver of a Nissan Sentra turned left in front of him at the intersection of Spotted and Melville roads. Despite his efforts to brake and swerve, Paetow was unable to avoid the collision. He was rushed to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that Paetow’s cause of death was blunt force injuries, ruling the death accidental. Fortunately, no one else was injured in the crash. The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident, and further updates are expected.

Friends, family, and community members are mourning the loss of Paetow, who was beloved for his kindness, generosity, and sense of humor. In the wake of his passing, a GoFundMe page has been created to assist with memorial expenses and support his surviving son. As of Friday, nearly $2,000 had been raised in a show of support from the community.

Several people took to Facebook to express their grief and share memories of Paetow. Florida Schaal posted a heartfelt tribute, recalling their friendship of over 15 years and the numerous ways Paetow helped her during difficult times. She emphasized the deep loss felt by many and called for more awareness of motorcycles on the road, as accidents like this are happening too frequently in the community. Schaal also noted that Paetow’s son, mother, and sister are left behind after this devastating loss.

Paula Davis echoed the sentiment, commenting, "Too too many lately."

D.a. Gorden expressed the fears of fellow riders, writing, “RIP. Too many times I’m hearing the loss of a rider… it makes me think, when is it going to be me?”

Deana Vranich shared her sorrow, stating, “Awe man, he sure was a sweetheart. Genuinely a good guy and always willing to have a great conversation. He will definitely be missed.”

Kevin Griffin and Gail Kinch also sent their condolences, with Kinch adding, "Praying for him and his family and you too. So sad."
