Hataway died on September 10, 2024, in Snyder, surrounded by his family. The funeral services are scheduled for September 15, 2024, at Colonial Hill Baptist Church, with Dr. Tommy Culwell officiating. Burial will follow at Snyder Cemetery under the direction of Miller Family Funeral Home.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen Hataway, three daughters, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
