Philadelphia Police Officer Jaime Roman Passes Away After Being Shot in the Line of Duty

Philadelphia, PA – With great sorrow, the Philadelphia Police Department has announced the passing of Officer Jaime Roman, a dedicated member of the 25th District, who died from injuries sustained in the line of duty. Officer Roman passed away on September 10, 2024, at 8:30 PM, surrounded by his family.

The tragic incident that led to Officer Roman’s death occurred on June 22, 2024, during a traffic stop on the 3600 block of F Street. Officer Roman and his partner had pulled over a vehicle driven by 36-year-old Ramon Vazquez, which lacked proper registration and insurance. During the stop, the officers discovered an empty holster inside the car, prompting Vazquez to flee on foot.

While in pursuit, Vazquez turned and fired three shots, striking Officer Roman in the neck. Officer Roman’s partner returned fire and rushed to aid him before transporting him to the hospital. Vazquez was later apprehended and is currently in custody, with charges expected to be upgraded in light of Officer Roman’s passing.

After the shooting, Officer Roman fought for his life in intensive care at Temple University Hospital for several months before succumbing to his injuries. The loss has left a profound impact on his family, colleagues, and the entire Philadelphia community.

“It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the loss of Officer Jaime Roman, a dedicated and courageous member of our department,” stated Police Commissioner Kevin J. Bethel. “Jaime’s commitment to protecting our community was unwavering, and his sacrifice will never be forgotten.”

Numerous friends, colleagues, and members of the public have shared their condolences and tributes on social media.

Cathy Quinn Kay wrote, “Rest in Peace.”

Suzi Davis added, “Rest in Peace brave Officer Roman. Thank you for your service and prayers for your family blood and blue.”

Sasy Santiago Vazquez posted, “My condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. Rest in Peace Officer Jaime Roman! Thank you for your service Sir!!”
