Millville Resident Addiel Ortiz and Young Boy Tragically Killed in Vineland Motorcycle Crash

Vineland, New Jersey – The lives of Addiel A. Ortiz, 31, of Millville, and a 9-year-old boy were tragically cut short following a fatal motorcycle crash on Thursday evening, September 12, 2024, in Cumberland County.

The accident took place on Maple Avenue near Becker Drive around 6 p.m., when Ortiz, riding his motorcycle eastbound, collided with a westbound SUV. The SUV was turning left into the Joseph E. Romano Sports Complex when the two vehicles crashed.

Both Ortiz and the young boy, identified as a passenger in the SUV, were pronounced dead at the scene. The child, from Ocean View, was identified only by his initials, E.B., according to police reports. Emergency responders arrived quickly but were unable to save either victim.

This devastating incident has shocked the local community, with many expressing their sorrow and condolences. The police investigation is ongoing as authorities work to determine the exact cause of the crash, and they are asking for any witnesses to come forward with information.

Ortiz had served as a senior correctional police officer with the New Jersey Department of Corrections (NJDOC) since 2014. His passing has deeply affected his colleagues and community, with NJ PBA Local 105 honoring his dedication and service.
