Michael Wilson, 83, Passes Away After a Courageous Battle with Brain Cancer at Brampton Civic Hospital

Brampton, Ontario – Michael Wilson, affectionately known as Mike, passed away peacefully at the age of 83 on Saturday, September 7, 2024, after a brief but courageous battle with brain cancer. Mike’s passing occurred at Brampton Civic Hospital, where he had received care during his illness.

Born on November 27, 1940, in Toronto, Mike lived a life devoted to his family, his community, and his passion for farming. He was the beloved husband of Renie (née Lawrence), with whom he shared 55 years of marriage. Mike was a cherished father to three sons: Thomas (Nicole Judge) of Caledon, Larry (Kirstie Freitag) of Hockley Valley, and Greg of Golden, BC. His grandson, Kiernan, brought him immense joy and pride. Mike is also survived by his sister, Sharon Merritt, his aunt, Betty Jacobs, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mike’s life was defined by his love for farming, having graduated from the Ontario Agricultural College at the University of Guelph in 1962. He managed Wilson’s Orchard in Caledon, where he raised beef, cash crops, and a variety of fruits and vegetables. His deep connection to agriculture and dedication to his community were widely respected.

In addition to his farming work, Mike was an active member of the community, serving as a past Master of the Caledon East Masonic Lodge and a lifetime member of Mayfield United Church. He also enjoyed curling with friends at the Brampton Curling Club, creating lasting memories over the years.

Mike will be remembered for his curiosity, sharp memory, and ability to recall places and facts with ease. His knowledge and presence will be greatly missed by those who knew him.

A celebration of life will be held for Mike at Mayfield United Church, Caledon, on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception in the church hall. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at the Egan Funeral Home in Bolton on Thursday, September 26, 2024, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mike’s memory to the Bethell Hospice Foundation or the S.H.A.R.E. Agriculture Foundation, reflecting his lifelong commitment to helping others.

Mike Wilson’s legacy of dedication, curiosity, and service to his community will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
