Lakewood, CA – Michael Arizona, a beloved member of the community, is facing a long and challenging road to recovery following a tragic motorcycle accident that occurred on September 6, 2024. The accident, which took place at 5:31 AM, left Michael with life-threatening injuries after a car made a sudden left turn in front of him, leaving him no time to react.
The impact of the accident was severe, rendering Michael unconscious and causing him to stop breathing. He suffered multiple critical injuries, including a broken neck (C4-C7 vertebrae), broken ribs, and a diffuse axonal brain injury (DAI)—one of the most severe types of traumatic brain injuries. This type of injury disrupts the connections between the brain’s white and gray matter, making Michael’s recovery particularly challenging.
Known for his kindness, intelligence, and deep compassion for others, Michael is a graduate of Long Beach State with a degree in Management Information Systems and holds an MBA from Arizona State University. He had dreams of serving in the Air Force and making a positive impact on the world. Now, after surviving the crash, Michael is working hard to rebuild his life, facing immense physical, emotional, and financial challenges.
After being rushed to the ICU, Michael spent days unconscious, intubated, and fighting for his life. Though he has now survived, his recovery journey is just beginning. He is relearning basic tasks such as walking, talking, and recognizing loved ones. His broken neck requires him to wear a brace for 12 weeks, and his brain injury has left him struggling with everyday activities. Despite the difficulties, Michael’s determination and faith remain strong.
A fundraiser organized by Jeri Powers has been launched to support Michael’s medical bills and his ongoing rehabilitation. As of now, $550 has been raised, with contributions from three donors. Michael’s care requires 24/7 assistance as he works with medical professionals to regain his independence.
