Marchik Mark Kozyk, Former Corps Member from Vermont, Tragically Passes Away after Family Rejection

Vermont – The Meriden Pride Community Center and others in the community are mourning the loss of Marchik "Mark" Kozyk, a former CorpsTHAT member who tragically passed away last Saturday. Mark’s death has deeply impacted those who knew him, especially as it came after his rejection by family due to his sexuality.

Mark, who was born deaf, faced many hardships throughout his life. Despite these challenges, he became known for his kindness and ability to bring light to others. His friends have shared stories of his generosity and perseverance, even when dealing with his family’s refusal to accept his identity.

Mark’s story is a tragic reminder of the importance of family acceptance, communication access, and mental health support. Friends from the community have expressed their grief and shared memories of the positive impact Mark had on their lives. The CorpsTHAT community remembers him as a passionate advocate for wildlife conservation and a loving member of the team.

The Meriden Pride Community Center shared a heartfelt post on Facebook, saying, "Despite the happiness displayed in these photographs, Mark ended his life on Saturday due to the result of being rejected by his family for his sexuality. I never knew him personally, but I wish I did. Mark always was a kind soul who brought light into the lives of many."

Other friends and community members have expressed their sorrow and support:

Theresa Schulze added, "So very sad!! Such a handsome kid!! Way too young!!"

Sheryl J Roberts commented, "I’m so sorry reading this sad news!! Mark sounds like he was an amazing man! Unfortunately, we still live in a world where people don’t understand that people are born the way they are!"

Mark’s friends and colleagues are continuing to honor his memory by advocating for inclusivity and American Sign Language (ASL) access, something that was crucial in Mark’s life. His legacy will be remembered as a reminder of the need for acceptance and kindness, especially for those in marginalized communities.

At the time of this writing, funeral arrangements for Mark have not been disclosed. The community continues to offer its love and support to his family and friends as they cope with this tragic loss.
