Longtime Fairfield Resident and Champion Laboratories Veteran, Norman Schell Jr., Dies at 69

Norman Schell Jr., a beloved resident of Fairfield, passed away on Friday, September 13, 2024, at Wabash Senior Living in Carmi. He was 69 years old. Born on July 4, 1955, to Norman Schell Sr. and Mary (Upton) Schell, Norman dedicated 41 years of his career to Champion Laboratories before retiring in 2020.

He is survived by his daughter, Amber Schell of Fairfield, three grandchildren—Elijah Johnson, Tristen Belka, and Maddison Schell—his brother Wayne Schell, and two sisters, Dianna Claro and Debbie Walker, all from Fairfield. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Barbara Barnes.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 20, at 1 PM at the Johnson & Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield, followed by burial at Maple Hill Cemetery. A visitation will precede the service from 11 AM to 1 PM.

Friends and family shared heartfelt condolences on social media. “Norman was a great guy and coworker,” said Avery Williams. “So very sorry for your loss,” added Carla Helms, echoing the sentiments of many others.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Foundation in Norman’s honor.
