Legendary Boxing Coach Arthur Melrose Dies at 67 – Tributes Pour In From Across the Boxing Community

The boxing world is mourning the loss of legendary coach Arthur Melrose, who passed away on September 11, 2024. His death has left a deep void in the hearts of his trainees and friends. Arthur Melrose, known for shaping the careers of numerous professional fighters, was not just a coach but a mentor and a friend to many in the boxing community.

George Mcilroy, one of Melrose’s former fighters, shared his grief on Facebook, saying, “Absolutely gutted to hear the passing of my old coach Arthur Melrose. I turned over to the professional ranks with him, and we had some great fights. My thoughts go out to the family. Another one of the greats gone. RIP Arthur until we meet again.”

Other members of the boxing community expressed their sadness as well. Kenny Connelly simply said, “Sad mate,” while Ronald Mcintyre posted, “So sorry to hear. Sympathy to friends and family.”

Melrose’s legacy as a coach was built on his strategic insights and his passion for boxing, qualities that endeared him to his fighters. Colin Bellshaw commented, “He was a top man, George. Hope you’re all well,” and Jokey Mullen added, “Great boxing coach, trainer, and a good friend of my papa. Be sadly missed.”

Arthur Melrose’s passing has left many feeling the loss of not only a brilliant coach but a kind-hearted mentor. Hugh Mcilroy reflected on this, saying, “Sadly missed,” while Dev Cameron and Ian Corby Longstaff both expressed their respects with simple tributes: “RIP.”
