Hartford, Connecticut – The lacrosse community and residents of Hartford, Connecticut, are mourning the tragic loss of Griffin Patrick Meehan, a revered former lacrosse player, cherished father, and beloved partner. Griffin passed away unexpectedly on September 4, 2024, at the age of 35.

Griffin was born on July 16, 1989, in Hartford and is remembered not only for his athletic achievements but also for his unwavering kindness and deep compassion.

A Lacrosse Legend

Griffin Meehan’s name is etched in lacrosse history for his outstanding performance at Keene State College. His remarkable career included a record-breaking 105 points and 69 goals in a single season. Griffin was a two-time College All-American, twice named LEC Player of the Year, and led his team to two LEC Championships. His record of 5.53 points per game in 2010 led all NCAA lacrosse players that season.

A Life of Compassion and Love

Off the field, Griffin was admired for his infectious personality, generosity, and dedication to his family and friends. His warmth touched everyone he encountered, and he was always ready to lend a helping hand.

Griffin’s life revolved around his loving partner, Samantha Tavantzis, and his cherished daughter, Ryan McKenzie Meehan. Raised in Simsbury, Connecticut, he completed his education at Keene State College, earning a degree in communications before moving to Boston.

In remembrance of his life, a celebration will be held at Bloomfield Congregational Church in Bloomfield, Connecticut, on September 22, 2024. The family has requested donations to the church in lieu of flowers as a tribute to Griffin’s lasting impact on his community.
