Kewanee Resident Lukas McCullough Tragically Killed in Train Incident, Community in Mourning

Kewanee, Illinois – Lukas McCullough, a 40-year-old resident of Kewanee, was tragically killed after being struck by an Amtrak train on Sunday, September 8, 2024. The Kewanee Police Department, in cooperation with the Henry County Coroner’s Office, confirmed Lukas’s identity in a press release on September 11, 2024.

The incident remains under investigation, and authorities are asking for anyone with information to come forward. Detectives Kazubowski and Paulsen of the Kewanee Police Department are leading the investigation.

Lukas McCullough’s sudden death has shocked the Kewanee community, where he was known for his kindness, generosity, and deep involvement in local activities. His love for nature and dedication to improving the community made him a beloved figure.

Several individuals took to Facebook to express their grief and remember Lukas fondly. Kimberly Olander wrote, “RIH LUKAS I only met you a few times but the ones who knew you loved you heartfelt prayers to his family and friends.” Robin Burwell shared, “Words can not express the sadness we all feel… It’s just so hard to believe you are gone. May you rest easy and watch over us as our angel now.”

Jon Shipe added, “Gone but not forgotten buddy,” while Patsy Lynn Hoge commented, “You will be missed.” These heartfelt messages reflect the profound sense of loss felt by those who knew Lukas.

As the investigation continues, the community of Kewanee mourns the loss of a man who touched many lives. Funeral arrangements are currently being made, with the family requesting privacy during this difficult time.
