Karen M. Trickett of Dorchester, Massachusetts Passes Away at 81 After Long Battle with Lung Disease

Dorchester, MA – Karen M. Trickett (Macumber), a resident of Dorchester, Massachusetts, passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at the age of 81. Karen had been battling lung disease for several years before her passing.

Karen was born in Dorchester to the late Emery and Mary (Molly) Macumber. She married her beloved husband, Joseph (Joe) Trickett, on May 5, 1962, after meeting him through the Saint Rose Drum and Bugle Corps. Together, they raised their two daughters, Mary and Andrea, and created a loving home, first in Chelsea and later in Billerica.

Karen had a fulfilling career as a Financial Controller for QPL Electronics before retiring. She and her husband moved to North Woodstock, New Hampshire, where they embraced their retirement with enthusiasm. Karen, an active and adventurous spirit, enjoyed skiing, golfing, and planning social events, earning her the title of “party planner” among friends and family. Her joy for life continued as she shared her passion for skiing with her family during her time working part-time at Loon Mountain.

In addition to her personal passions, Karen was a devoted grandmother, affectionately known as "Nana T." She was a constant presence in her grandchildren’s lives, attending their activities and offering her unwavering support. Karen’s loving and vibrant personality extended to her community, where she was cherished by many.

Karen is survived by her daughters, Mary Hommel of Billerica and Andrea Kelly of Londonderry, NH, as well as her grandchildren, Emily Hommel, Victoria Velasquez, Ryan Kelly, and Erin Kelly. She is also survived by two of her siblings, Irene Wolfe and James Murphy. Karen was predeceased by her husband, Joseph, and many siblings.

Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at Burns Funeral Home in Billerica, followed by a mass at St. Irene’s Church in Carlisle. Visiting hours will take place on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Contributions in her memory can be made to the Home for Little Wanderers.

On Facebook, friends and family shared heartfelt messages. Mary Trickett Hommel expressed, "This had not been an easy journey for my Mom Karen Macumber Trickett these last few years but she is at peace now and with my Dad."

Others also offered condolences, with Lisa Ferolito posting, "So sorry for your loss Mary," and Sandra Neenan Aloi commenting, "She is a beautiful woman. So kind and loving and always smiling."

Karen M. Trickett’s legacy will be remembered fondly by her family, friends, and community.
