Summit, Mississippi – A tragic shooting early Friday morning at the Summit apartment complex on 900 Cherry Street has left one young man dead and two teenagers injured. The incident, described as a drive-by shooting, occurred around 2 a.m., according to Police Chief Alex Miller.

Jeremiah Lloyd, 19, was the victim of this fatal attack. He was rushed to Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center but sadly succumbed to his injuries. Two other victims, a 15-year-old and a 17-year-old, were also injured in the gunfire. The 15-year-old sustained a grazing wound, while the 17-year-old was struck and is currently receiving medical care.

Chief Miller noted that the motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and no suspects have been identified. Authorities are actively seeking help from the public to aid in their investigation. "Our hearts are going out to the family," Miller said, expressing the deep sorrow felt by the community. He urged anyone with information or witnesses to come forward.

This shooting has deeply shaken the Summit community, which has seen a troubling rise in violence involving young people. Chief Miller highlighted this disturbing trend, stating, "They’re getting younger and younger," in reference to recent incidents in the area, including another fatal shooting that took the life of a police officer just over a month ago.

As the investigation continues, the Summit community is coming together to support the victims and their families. Meanwhile, authorities are determined to bring those responsible to justice and address the growing concerns about safety in the area.
