James Rudolph Whiteside of DeValls Bluff, Arkansas, Passes Away at Age 88

James Rudolph Whiteside, affectionately known as Rudy, passed away on September 16, 2024, in DeValls Bluff, Arkansas, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on April 18, 1936, in Shannon, Mississippi, Rudy moved to Wilson, Arkansas, at the age of eight with his parents, Gerald and Virginia Whiteside. He grew up in Wilson, fondly remembered for his youthful mischief, love for motorcycles, and fondness for dancing.

Rudy pursued higher education at Arkansas State University (ASU) in Jonesboro, earning a degree in Agriculture Science in 1959. He married his wife, June, during his time at ASU, and they later moved to Pleasant Plains, Arkansas, where Rudy taught Agriculture and Science for nine years. The couple was blessed with two sons, Jim and Terry.

A man of education and service, Rudy earned his master’s degree and served as a school counselor in DeValls Bluff for 21 years before continuing his career in Lonoke as an Educational Examiner. He retired in 1998.

A lifelong member of the Methodist church, Rudy was known for his active involvement, serving as a teacher, choir member, and lay leader. His devotion to his faith and community was evident throughout his life.

Rudy is survived by his wife, June, his sister, Ann, sons Jim and Terry, and two grandsons, Tyler and Cody. Funeral services will be held at DeValls Bluff Methodist Church on Thursday, September 19, 2024.

Tributes have poured in on social media, with friends and family offering prayers and condolences. "Sending our prayers and heartfelt condolences for his family," wrote Barbara Kee, while Brenda Lee Prince Smith expressed, "Such a great loss!"
