James Joseph Bertram of Union, Kentucky, Passes Away at Age 87 After Battling Alzheimer’s

Union, KY – James “Jim” Joseph Bertram, 87, of Union, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 9, 2024, at Boonespring Nursing Home, after a courageous five-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Jim was a well-respected member of the community and a devoted family man, leaving behind a legacy of love and craftsmanship.

Jim was born with a strong work ethic and creativity that he channeled into his career as a Foreman in the Press Department at Nutone Inc. After retiring, he dedicated his time to woodworking, a passion that resulted in beautiful, handcrafted furniture for his children, grandchildren, friends, and his church, Holy Family Church in Oldenburg, Indiana. His woodshop became a symbol of his meticulous skill and love for his family.

Jim is survived by his son, Jim Bertram, his daughters, Carole Geglein, Michelle Mersch, and Denise Abt, along with nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carole Bertram, and his brothers, Charles and David Bertram. His surviving brothers include Donald, Norbert, and Jerry Bertram.

A visitation service for James Bertram will be held on Friday, September 13, 2024, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home in Ft. Thomas. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 6:30 p.m. at St. Thomas Church, also in Ft. Thomas. The family will hold a private entombment at St. Stephen Cemetery at their convenience.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to be made in Jim’s memory to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or the Alzheimer’s Association, reflecting his long battle with the disease.
