Inspirational Triathlete Sindy Hooper of Kanata, Ontario Passes Away After Long Battle with Pancreatic Cancer

Kanata, Ontario – Sindy Hooper, an esteemed triathlete and beacon of hope, has passed away at the age of 50. Known for her unyielding spirit and remarkable achievements, Sindy battled pancreatic cancer for nearly 12 years while continuing to compete in Ironman races and fundraise for cancer research.

In November of last year, Sindy was honored at the Ottawa Philanthropy Awards with the Inspiration Award. Her acceptance speech, which highlighted her mantra to "Make every moment count," resonated deeply with all who heard it. Despite her prolonged struggle with cancer, Sindy remained an influential figure, using her platform to inspire others and promote resilience.

MaryAnne Gillespie expressed her admiration on Facebook, stating, “We lost one of the most inspiring women in Ottawa and Triathlons, Sindy Hooper. She battled 12 years with pancreatic cancer and raced Ironmans throughout. Her message was always to ‘live’ life while you can and she did.”

Mary Nacarato also reflected on Sindy’s impact, saying, “These are the stories that continually have me saying ‘what’s my excuse’. RiP.”

Holly Chriss shared condolences, writing, “I’m sorry for your loss!!”

Sindy’s legacy of courage and generosity will continue to inspire and remind others to live fully and compassionately.
