Gloucester Resident Brian F. Torkildsen Passes Away at Age 63, Leaving a Lasting Legacy

Gloucester, Massachusetts – Brian F. Torkildsen, a 63-year-old resident of Gloucester, passed away unexpectedly on September 7, 2024, while receiving care at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. His death has left a deep void in his family and community, who will remember him for his unwavering dedication to his work and volunteer efforts.

Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Brian later moved to Danvers, where he graduated from Danvers High School in 1979. He eventually made Gloucester his home and built a successful career as the sole proprietor of House and Home Services. Over the past 40 years, Brian became well-known for his craftsmanship, earning respect from clients and peers alike.

Beyond his work, Brian was an active community leader. As the Commander of The Sons of American Legion Capt. Lester S. Wass Post 3, he was instrumental in expanding the squadron’s membership and organizing community initiatives. He was especially committed to veterans, helping prepare and deliver holiday meals and organizing a monthly breakfast to support those in need.

Brian’s family was his greatest joy, and he cherished weekly traditions, including Wednesday night dinners, Friday sleepovers, and Saturday morning breakfasts. He was well-known for his culinary skills, especially his home fries and chocolate chip cookies, which his family will remember fondly.

He is survived by his son, Derek, and his wife, Arielle; his daughter, Ashley; his grandchildren, Ivy and Hunter; and nine siblings. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Mary-Ellen Torkildsen.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, September 27, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., followed by a service at Greely Funeral Home in Gloucester. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute or The Sons of the American Legion Squadron 003, honoring Brian’s dedication to supporting veterans and the fight against cancer.

Tributes from friends and family poured in on Facebook. Derek Torkildsen shared, "Rest in peace Dad." Others expressed their condolences, including Scott Steeves, who said, "Sorry for your loss, Derek," and Rob Edgar, who commented, "Derek, your family are in my thoughts and prayers."

Raeleane Randazza lovingly remembered Brian, writing, "Best papa and cookie maker. RIP Brian, you will be missed." Marianne Kelleher added, "Rest in peace," while Ami Ruehrwein Wall shared, "I’m so sorry for your loss."

Brian F. Torkildsen’s memory will continue to live on in the lives he touched through his kindness, service, and love for his community and family. May he rest in peace.
