Fundraiser Launched for Jason Winder After Devastating Boat Accident in Poquoson, Virginia

Poquoson, Virginia – A community is coming together to support local waterman Jason Winder, who recently suffered a significant loss following a boat accident. Jason, a single father of two young boys, has been left out of work and struggling to recover both financially and emotionally.

The accident, which occurred on Thursday, left Jason with a few broken ribs, but fortunately, he walked away with his life. However, his livelihood has been severely impacted as his boat, which he used to earn a living, was destroyed. Efforts to retrieve the boat have been delayed due to dangerous weather conditions, and time is running out as the Coast Guard plans to start charging $2,500 per day after tomorrow.

Jason has worked on the water since he was a boy, learning the trade from his father, George, who had to stop due to diabetes. Jason carried on the family tradition, making the sea his life’s work. Now, facing a $10,000 expense to recover his boat, he feels lost and defeated, uncertain how to provide for his sons.

A GoFundMe fundraiser organized by Jason’s sister, Angel Forrest, has raised $150 so far from four early donors: Billy Forrest ($50), Rhonda Wagner ($25), John Payne ($25), and Katrina Latray ($50). The goal is to reach $10,000 to help Jason get back on his feet.

The community is rallying around Jason, with local watermen and residents planning another attempt to bring the boat home tomorrow. Prayers and support have been requested for their safety during this difficult time.

Those wishing to help Jason can donate to the fundraiser or keep him and his sons in their prayers as they navigate this challenging period.
