Esteemed Professor Anne Pinkerton of University of St. Thomas Passes Away at 82, Houston Mourns Her Loss

Houston, TX – The University of St. Thomas Alumni Association has announced the passing of Anne C. Pinkerton, a highly respected alumna and professor emerita, on September 8, 2024, at the age of 82. Ms. Pinkerton’s death marks the end of an extraordinary 40-year career in education, where she left an indelible mark on both the university and its students.

Ms. Pinkerton earned both her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Education degrees from the University of St. Thomas, where she later returned to dedicate her career. She rose to prominence as a professor of biological sciences, becoming a beloved figure on campus due to her passion for teaching and mentorship. Her colleagues and students often remarked on her warmth and kindness, in addition to her commitment to academic excellence.

Throughout her tenure, Ms. Pinkerton played significant roles in shaping the university’s academic landscape. She served as chair of the Faculty Senate, advocating for faculty rights and academic freedom. Her influence extended far beyond the classroom, as she worked tirelessly to create an inclusive environment for both students and staff.

Visitation services will be held at Earthman Funeral Directors in Houston on Tuesday, September 17, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Rite of Committal will take place the following day, Wednesday, September 18, at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery.
