Desmond Lawrence Hansch, fondly known as "Desi," passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 12, 2024, at the age of 84. Born on May 24, 1940, Desi was a cherished husband, father, and grandfather, deeply loved by his family and the community.
Desmond was the loving husband of the late Gloria Jean Hansch and is survived by his children Des, Rusty, Sherry, Gary, and Janet. He was also a beloved father-in-law to Sue, Marnie, Calvin, and Jerry. Known affectionately as "Poppy" and "Great Poppy," Desmond was a central figure in the lives of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at the Verey Chapel in Daylesford on Friday, September 20, 2024, at 12:00 PM. Following the service, Desmond will be laid to rest alongside his late wife Gloria at the Daylesford Cemetery.
Friends and family have shared touching tributes online. Russell Dooley commented, "Good on ya Des. You were one in a million mate. A genuine bloke and a bloody comedian to go with it. Rest easy old mate!" Another tribute from Joy Stein added, "Sadly missed around the DBC. Condolences to all the family."
