Daniel "Dan" Ast, 66, of Wisconsin Rapids, Passes Away After a 12-Year Battle with Cancer

Wisconsin Rapids, WI – Daniel "Dan" Ast, a 66-year-old resident of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away on September 6, 2024, following a brave 12-year battle with cancer. Born on May 1, 1958, in Wausau, Dan was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, remembered for his dedication to his family and his infectious love for life.

Dan was married to Sue Zastrow on September 29, 1979, and together they raised three children: Jennifer, Dan Jr., and Christina. He was deeply proud of his children and grandchildren, who include Bailey, Peyton, Sage, and Willow. His family also extended to his furry companion, Urban, who remained by his side through his final days.

Dan retired in 2012 from Northcentral Technical College, where he worked as a custodian. He previously worked for Graphic Packaging and Anderson Bros & Johnson. In his healthier years, Dan loved fishing and shared this passion with his children. His hobbies also included gardening, bird watching, making pickles, camping, and experimenting with winemaking.

A diehard fan of the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers, Dan was known not only for his enthusiasm for sports but for his unwavering support for his family and friends. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

A celebration of Dan’s life is scheduled for Saturday, September 21, 2024, at John J. Buettgen Funeral Home in Schofield, where friends and family will gather to honor his legacy.

Dan is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, and sisters Deb Baptist and Lynn Hanusa. He is preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Ast, his mother, Corrine Pomeroy, and his sister, Pam Gorski.
