Coastal Carolina University Student Hayden Hawkey Passes Away on September 12, 2024, Leaving a Legacy of Love and Joy

Mount Pleasant, South Carolina – On Thursday, September 12, 2024, Hayden Ashley Hawkey, a beloved student of Coastal Carolina University, tragically passed away. Hayden, who was known for her infectious humor, unwavering kindness, and zest for life, left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

A 2022 graduate of Wando High School, Hayden went on to attend the Dynamy Program in Massachusetts. Most recently, she embarked on her college journey in the LIFE Program at Coastal Carolina University, having just settled into her dormitory in August. It was clear that Hayden was experiencing one of the happiest periods of her life, filled with new friends, concerts, and the thrill of college classes.

Despite facing numerous health challenges due to Turner’s Syndrome, Hayden approached life with immense courage and optimism. She underwent many surgeries throughout her life but rarely complained, embodying resilience and grace. Her ability to uplift others with her humor and compassion made her an unforgettable presence among her friends, family, and community.

Hayden cherished her time with loved ones, particularly her grandmother and grandfather, and enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. Whether it was making crafts with her grandmother or riding in her grandfather’s pickup truck to the Awendaw trash dump, these moments of joy were an essential part of who she was. She also loved spending time with her friends and colleagues at Palmetto Moon, always greeting them with her signature smile.

In her brief 19 years, Hayden traveled extensively with her family, visiting places like Aruba, Mexico, Spain, France, Italy, and Scotland. These adventures, along with her love for animals and the water, were a testament to her adventurous spirit.

A celebration of Hayden’s life will take place on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel at 12:00 p.m.

Many who knew Hayden have shared heartfelt tributes in her memory.

Fiona Dieleman posted on Facebook, "Anyone who knew Hayden Hawkey, knew her light. The massive amounts of love and positivity this little girl spread throughout this Earth will never leave a single one of us. My heart is crushed for the family, and I am sharing in their sorrow. We love you forever, Hayden."

Judy A McCall shared, “Oh my! I’m so very sorry, Fi! What an unimaginable loss for everyone. I’m certain she made our world a better place.”

Aysha Virji expressed, “Praying for you, Fi! She’s absolutely beautiful! These pictures are so precious I can see how much you love her in each and every one of them! So much joy. Love you!”

Hayden’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
