Brockton Resident Brian P. Murphy Passes Away at 43 After a Courageous Battle with Cancer

Brockton, Massachusetts – Brian P. Murphy, aged 43, passed away on September 15, 2024, after a courageous fight against cancer. A beloved resident of Brockton, and formerly of Canton and Stoughton, Brian spent his final moments surrounded by his loving family at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston. His passing marks a profound loss for his community, friends, and family.

Born in Norwood, Massachusetts, Brian was the devoted husband of Nicole A. (Russell) and the loving father of two daughters, Cadence P. and Lillian G. Murphy. His family, including his parents Nancy Cahillane Connor and her husband James, as well as William Murphy and his wife Michelle, all of Canton, mourn his loss deeply. Brian’s siblings, Olivia and Julia Murphy, and brothers Stephen Cahillane and Jim Cahillane, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, hold his memory dear.

Brian graduated from Canton High School in 1999 and pursued further education at the University of Central Florida. He dedicated much of his professional life to his passion for culinary arts, working as a chef at Foley’s Back Street Grill in Stoughton and later at Plainridge Casino in Plainville. His talent in the kitchen brought joy to many.

Beyond his culinary career, Brian was an active sportsman. His early participation in Little League baseball and Pop Warner football ignited a lifelong love of sports, leading him to become the Head Junior Varsity Football Coach and Assistant Varsity Coach at Blue Hill Regional High School in Canton. His leadership left a lasting impression on the young athletes he mentored.

Brian’s enthusiasm for Boston sports, particularly the Boston Celtics, was infectious. He also enjoyed playing golf, finding both challenge and relaxation in the game.

In a touching tribute, Caitlin Murphy shared on Facebook, “Brian was the best big cousin we could have had and we will never be the same without him. He was so many things to so many people, and I feel really lucky to have been a part of his life. I will love you and miss you forever, Brian.” She also mentioned the GoFundMe set up for Brian’s wife and daughters, asking for support for his beloved family.

Other friends and family also expressed their condolences online. Samantha Vachon commented, “I’m so sorry for your loss,” while Ashley Louise added, “So sorry for your loss. Thinking of you.” Courtney Alexson and Diana Bowler shared similar sentiments, with many others offering prayers and support during this difficult time.

Brian Murphy’s legacy of love, service, and courage will continue to inspire all who knew him. Visiting hours will be held at Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home in Canton on Thursday, with a funeral mass at St. Oscar Romero Church on Friday morning.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the GoFundMe page established in Brian’s memory to support his daughters.
