Boston Mourns Sudden Death of Jeff Sullivan, Associate Director of Study Abroad at Northeastern University

Boston, MA – The Northeastern University community and the city of Boston are grieving the sudden death of Jeff Sullivan, the Associate Director of the Study Abroad & Exchange program at the university. Jeff passed away unexpectedly earlier this week following a medical emergency. He was a well-known resident of Boston and a cherished figure at the university.

Jeff Sullivan, who had a passion for global travel, particularly enjoyed biking around the Netherlands, admiring windmills, and tasting local delicacies such as pickled herring. He began his career in higher education in 2006 and joined Northeastern University’s Study Abroad Team in 2016, where he played a pivotal role in expanding students’ opportunities to experience international cultures.

A graduate of the Breda University of Applied Sciences, Jeff was dedicated to helping students immerse themselves in new experiences abroad, believing in the importance of both exploration and cultural appreciation.

Many friends and colleagues have taken to social media to express their shock and sadness at Jeff’s passing. Jenny Woodford Cruz posted on Facebook, "My dear friend Jeff passed away suddenly this week. This is a major loss for everyone who knew his bright, beautiful spirit."

Kara Santora, another friend, wrote, "Omg Jeff, he was such a sweetheart and so kind to me during my time at NU. May he rest in peace."

Jodi Echelman Peckler shared her condolences as well, commenting, "Jenny, we are so sorry for your loss & all those they knew them."

Funeral arrangements and Jeff Sullivan’s obituary will be released by the family in the coming days. The community is rallying around Jeff’s family during this difficult time, with efforts such as a GoFundMe campaign to support funeral expenses.

Jeff Sullivan’s legacy in education and his love for travel will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
