Bonita Magner of Thief River Falls, MN, Dies Peacefully at Age 81

Thief River Falls, MN – Bonita "Bonnie" Magner, aged 81, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at the Thief River Care Center. A beloved member of the Thief River Falls community, Bonnie was known for her deep faith, love for her family, and many talents.

Bonnie was born on November 8, 1942, at the Charles T. Miller Hospital in St. Paul, MN, to Abner Everett and Lucille Ruth Johnson. She spent her early years in various locations, including Pine City, MN, and Charleston, SC, before her family settled in Thief River Falls. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1960 and later married Donald Lloyd Magner on October 6, 1962. Together, they raised five children—Kent, Paul, Kelly, Nathan, and Joshua.

Bonnie’s life was filled with dedication to her family and faith. She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses at the age of 18 and was a dedicated member of the congregation in Thief River Falls. Her musical talent was often on display as she played piano during services, and she was an active volunteer in her religious community.

Bonnie was known for her creativity and many hobbies. Her baking skills, particularly her famous apple crisp, were beloved by her family and friends. She also enjoyed drawing, attending flea markets, and participating in auction sales. Bonnie’s artistic abilities were evident in her beautiful handwriting, and her home was always a warm and welcoming place filled with laughter.

Bonnie worked at Union State Bank and Arctic Cat, contributing to the local community through her professional endeavors. Her marriage to Donald lasted over 61 years, a testament to their enduring love and partnership.

A service to celebrate Bonnie’s life was held on Monday, September 16, 2024, at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, where many came to honor her memory.

Following her passing, several individuals expressed their condolences on social media. Kelly Magner Gillund shared, “Yesterday we laid my beautiful mama to rest. Thank you from our family to everyone for the visits, hugs, prayers, texts, emails, phone calls, cards, flowers, and for attending her service. She will be greatly missed.”
