Beloved Slaton Farmer and Family Man Bobby Joe Harlan Passes Away at 77

Bobby Joe Harlan, a cherished member of the Slaton community and a dedicated family man, has passed away at the age of 77. Harlan, who was known for his love of farming and racing greyhounds, died on Thursday, September 12, 2024. His passing marks a significant loss for his family and friends.

Born on July 18, 1947, in Slaton to George and Bernice Harlan, Bobby Joe graduated from Slaton High School and was an active member of the rodeo team at San Angelo State University. He married Elizabeth Mosty on November 15, 1969, and together they built a life in Slaton. Harlan was not only a farmer but also enjoyed watching his granddaughters play sports, traveling, and playing dominoes.

The memorial services for Bobby Joe Harlan are scheduled for 10:30 am on Monday, September 16, 2024, at Slaton Methodist Church. Arrangements are being handled by Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.

The community has expressed their condolences on social media, with Russell Jones reflecting, “Bobby Joe will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.” Another post reads, “His love for his family and friends was unmatched; he was a true gem in our lives.”

Harlan is survived by his wife Elizabeth, his daughter Jessica Payne, his son Kirk Harlan, his brother Jerry Harlan, and his granddaughters Julia and Emily Payne. Memorials are suggested to the Slaton Methodist Church or the Library of Legacies in Slaton.
