Beloved Hairdressing Educator Suzanne Sheridan Passes Away in Gowran, Kilkenny

Gowran, Kilkenny – The community is mourning the loss of Suzanne Sheridan, a dedicated hairdressing educator and mentor, who passed away unexpectedly on September 10, 2024. Suzanne, whose work in the field of hairdressing education left a lasting impact on countless students and colleagues, was a well-respected teacher, trainer, and examiner.

Suzanne spent many years teaching at Scoil Aireagail in Ballyhale and Ormonde College of Further Education in Kilkenny City. She was known not only for her expertise but also for the deep care and mentorship she offered her students. Her influence extended beyond the classroom, with many of her students going on to successful careers, crediting her as their inspiration.

Her passing has been deeply felt by those who knew her. Suzanne’s vibrant personality, warmth, and passion for teaching made her a beloved figure among her peers and students. Her contributions to the educational community, including her role with the State Examinations Commission and as a QQI External Examiner, ensured the quality of vocational education in Ireland.

Several friends and colleagues took to Facebook to express their sorrow. Stefanie Brennan Hamm wrote, “Rest in Peace Suzanne, a great character who loved her students and her career.” Noreen Phelan commented, “What an amazing lady Suzanne was, my inspiration as a teacher.”

Others shared similar sentiments. Denise McGarry posted, “Such a great character of a woman. RIP Suzanne from all your dolly birds, as you used to call us.” Sarah Walsh reflected, “I’m so sorry to hear this sad news. Suzanne taught me in Ballyhale many years ago. May she rest in peace.”

Suzanne’s funeral will be held tomorrow at 12 noon at the Church of the Assumption, Gowran, followed by her burial at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Danesfort. Her memory will live on through the many lives she touched, both as an educator and a friend.
