Beloved Artist Joshua David Adkins Passes Away, Leaving a Legacy of Love and Creativity

Hamilton, GA – Joshua David Adkins, a renowned artist and beloved community figure, passed away on September 9, 2024, at the age of 41. Surrounded by his loving family, Josh embraced eternity with the same grace and strength that defined his life.

Born on January 26, 1983, Josh was the cherished son of David and Elaine Adkins. He battled Ataxia-Telangiectasia (A-T) with courage, never allowing it to limit his creative spirit or love for life. Known for his artistic talent, Josh left an indelible mark on the world through his artwork and his ability to inspire others with his unwavering faith and positivity.

Josh’s art was more than just a profession; it was a message. He often reminded people, "You were created for a purpose. You are special." His creations, filled with beauty and heart, touched many lives, and his annual Christmas ornaments became cherished symbols of joy for those who supported his fundraising efforts for A-T.

His family, including his sisters Megon Steele and Heather Westad, along with their families, remained by his side during his final hours. Josh’s sister Megon Adkins Steele shared her heartbreak on Facebook, writing, "The earth is more dim without you already. My heart is so shattered… but it is so thankful that it knew you and all that you were."

Josh was admired not only for his artistic achievements but for his infectious joy and love of life. He was passionate about his faith, music, food, and the time spent with his family and feathered friends. He also had a signature look, often seen wearing his favorite Boston Scally cap as he planned his next masterpiece.

The community has expressed its grief and love for Josh in various heartfelt messages. Gloria Fountain Roney posted on Facebook, "When I got home today and read about the passing of Josh, it was like a punch in the gut yet again… Our hearts break but we know Josh is running free tonight."

Josh leaves behind a family and community forever changed by his presence. He is survived by his parents, his sisters and their families, and a legacy of love that will continue through his art. In honor of Josh’s life, donations can be made to the Ataxia-Telangiectasia Children’s Project, a cause close to his heart.
