Baltimore Ravens Rookie Cornerback Nate Wiggins Out for Week 2 After Car Accident, Confirms Coach John Harbaugh

Baltimore, Maryland – Baltimore Ravens rookie cornerback Nate Wiggins will miss the Week 2 game against the Las Vegas Raiders after being involved in a car accident earlier this week, confirmed head coach John Harbaugh during a press conference on Friday.

Wiggins, who sustained a neck injury in the accident, is reportedly fine but will be sidelined as a precaution. "Nate was in a car accident a couple of days ago," Harbaugh said. "He’s healthy, but he’s just not going to be able to play."

The accident likely took place after Wednesday’s practice, as Wiggins was absent from Thursday’s session. His injury is not considered severe, and Harbaugh expressed optimism that the rookie cornerback would return soon.

Wiggins was drafted 30th overall in the 2024 NFL Draft out of Clemson and made his NFL debut in Week 1 against the Kansas City Chiefs. Although he didn’t start, Wiggins saw action in 17 defensive snaps and 11 special teams snaps, impressing the coaching staff with his performance.

Known for his size, speed, and versatility, Wiggins had earned All-ACC honors during his time at Clemson and was expected to play a larger role in the Ravens’ defense this season.

The Ravens will be adjusting to Wiggins’ absence as they face the Raiders, relying on experienced players like Marlon Humphrey and Rock Ya-Sin to fill the gap in the secondary. Wiggins’ presence on special teams will also be missed, and the coaching staff will need to make some adjustments ahead of Sunday’s matchup.

On Facebook, fans and community members have shared their reactions to Wiggins’ accident. Steve Luray posted, "First Mark Andrews got in a car accident. Now Nate Wiggins got in one. PLEASE drive carefully around Ravens players, my friends, or if you are near 1 Winning Drive." Bob McCartney responded, "Not your insureds are they?" while Howard Eigenberg added, "Wow, you are asking a lot. People in Baltimore can’t park a car. How do you expect them to drive correctly?" David Rose suggested, "Steve, you should offer your services."

Though the car accident is a temporary setback for Wiggins, the Ravens remain confident in his future contributions once he returns fully healthy. Fans and coaches alike are eager to see him back on the field soon.
