Audrey Schnurr Hospitalized After Severe Head Injury in Fluke Horse Accident in Kitchener

Kitchener, ON – Audrey Schnurr is recovering from a severe head injury after a freak accident involving one of her horses on Saturday, September 7th, 2024. According to Schnurr, the incident took place while she was tending to her horses at the barn, where she suspects her gelding inadvertently caused the injury by smashing her head against a wall.

Schnurr was found hours later, suffering from a serious head injury, and was immediately rushed to the hospital. Two ambulances and an Ornge helicopter quickly arrived, airlifting her to the London Victoria Trauma unit, where she received life-saving care. She spent five days in the hospital, undergoing stitches, CT scans, and more treatments, with potential bone surgery still in her future.

Despite the severity of the accident, Schnurr expressed immense gratitude for the medical team at the trauma unit, as well as for the friends and family who stepped in to care for her horses during her recovery. Schnurr described the incident as unpredictable, noting that the horse she believes was involved is one she has owned for over 20 years.

The community has rallied to support Schnurr during this difficult time. A GoFundMe fundraiser, organized by Schnurr, is currently raising funds to assist with medical expenses and ongoing horse care. The campaign has raised $300 CAD so far, with donations from supporters including Michelle Busse and Michelle MacDonald.

In a heartfelt message on the fundraiser page, Schnurr reflected on the fragility of life, encouraging people to let go of trivial concerns and focus on what truly matters. She emphasized that life can change in an instant, whether through a horse accident or other unforeseen events.

Schnurr is also seeking funding to help care for her horses and continue her passion for breeding. She mentioned that while she is unable to ride for the time being, she hopes to find another rider to show her stallions, Fabulore THF and Wyzdom HR, both of which were close to being fully trained.

The accident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of working with horses, even in the safest of environments. Schnurr remains thankful for the support she has received and looks forward to her recovery.

The GoFundMe campaign remains active for those wishing to contribute to Audrey Schnurr’s medical and horse care expenses.
