Amaad Arana, 19, Dies in Tragic Motorcycle Accident in Hopkins Village

Hopkins Village, Belize – A tragic motorcycle accident claimed the life of 19-year-old Amaad Arana on Saturday night in Hopkins Village. Arana was on his way to meet friends at a nightclub when he was struck by an SUV while turning into the entrance of the Uno Service Station near Savannah View Restaurant.

The accident, which occurred on the Hopkins access road, was witnessed by Arana’s brother, Raheem Casimiro, who was at the nightclub with friends at the time. Casimiro recounted the heart-wrenching moment when he realized it was his brother involved in the crash. “We saw everything,” Casimiro said. “We reached down there, not knowing it was Amaad. When I saw his face, I went under the vehicle for him and picked him up. I told him to stay with me, but I knew he was already gone.”

Amaad Arana, remembered for his energetic spirit and love for sports, was a beloved member of the Hopkins Village community. Hopkins Village Chairman Macario Augustine paid tribute to Arana’s contributions, particularly in local athletics, describing him as "full of energy and always engaged in sports." Augustine also called for urgent safety measures on the road where the accident occurred, citing a need for speed bumps to prevent future tragedies in areas with businesses.

Arana was the passenger on the motorcycle when the SUV, attempting to overtake them, struck the bike. The motorcycle driver, Keegan Martinez, survived the crash with non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to recover.

The loss of Amaad Arana has left the community of Hopkins Village in mourning. On social media, many expressed their sorrow and shared heartfelt tributes.

Eden Nunez posted on Facebook, “We love u Amaad in life and in death. LLA.”

Jada R. Cabral added, “Fly high maad, we love you baby.”

As the Hopkins Village community comes together to remember the life of Amaad Arana, efforts to improve road safety in the area continue, with hopes of preventing future tragedies.
