21-Year-Old Alec S. Patterson of North Huntingdon Dies Unexpectedly Due to Heart Condition

North Huntingdon, PA – Alec S. Patterson, a 21-year-old resident of North Huntingdon, tragically passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 8, 2024, due to a heart condition. Born on January 31, 2003, in Monroeville, Alec was the cherished son of Shawn Patterson and Patricia Novak Patterson. His sudden passing has left his family, friends, and community devastated.

Alec was known for his academic brilliance and his passion for music. A 2021 graduate of Norwin High School, he was an accomplished pianist and a proud member of the Norwin Band, where he played the tuba. His love for music brought joy to those around him, and he was also a dedicated member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Irwin.

Alec continued his academic success at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree with dual majors in Secondary Education and History. Recognized as a Da Vinci Scholar, Alec’s dedication earned him a place on the Dean’s List every year of his college career. Following graduation, he began working as a Student-Teacher at Greater Latrobe High School, where he inspired students and colleagues alike with his passion for education.

Alec’s passing has left a profound impact on his family, who deeply mourn his loss. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Mary Jane Patterson, and his maternal grandparents, Paul and Mary Lou Novak. He is survived by his parents, as well as his paternal grandmother, Sandra Patterson, and numerous cousins, aunts, and uncles who adored him.

Funeral services for Alec will be held at the James W. Shirley Funeral Home in North Huntingdon on Thursday, with visitation from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Immaculate Conception Church on Friday at 10 AM, followed by interment at West Newton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations toward a future scholarship fund in Alec’s name, ensuring his legacy of education and helping others continues.

Alec Patterson’s love for music, education, and his community will live on in the memories of those who knew him. His spirit will continue to inspire all the lives he touched.
