18-Year-Old Maximilien Harper Dies in Tragic Dirt Bike Collision with Dump Truck in Westport, CT

Westport, CT – Tragedy struck Westport as 18-year-old Maximilien “Max” Harper was killed in a fatal accident involving a dirt bike and a dump truck on Old Hill Road on Wednesday, September 11, 2024.

The Westport Police Department responded to the scene at approximately 3:19 p.m. Authorities reported that Harper, riding his dirt bike southbound, collided with a dump truck traveling northbound as both vehicles approached a sharp corner near Partrick Road. The driver of the dump truck attempted to avoid the collision, veering off the road and crashing into several trees before the truck rolled over, spilling its contents.

Sadly, Harper was pronounced dead at the scene due to the severe injuries sustained in the crash. The dump truck driver was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Westport Police Accident Investigation Team, with assistance from Fairfield Police, is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident. The section of Old Hill Road between Partrick Road and Broadview Road remains closed as investigations continue.

Maximilien Harper was a student at Staples High School in Westport, CT, and the community has been mourning his tragic loss. No official statement has been released by the school yet, and funeral arrangements will be shared by the Harper family in due course.

Several community members took to Facebook to express their condolences.

Chief Foti Koskinas of the Westport Police Department shared, "The Westport Police Department extends its sincerest condolences to Max Harper’s family during this difficult time."

Nanette Wallace commented, “My heart goes out to the family. Such a tragic loss.”

Calise posted, “Sending love and prayers to everyone affected by this terrible accident.”

The Westport community is grieving this heartbreaking loss, as many remember Maximilien “Max” Harper for his vibrant personality and deep connections with friends and family.
